Bird’s eye view of Opportunity at Endeavour

The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has taken yet another photo of the Opportunity rover from orbit, this time showing the rover as it sits just inside the rim of Endeavour crater, on Cape York. The arrow shows the rover and if you look closely you can also see the tracks left behind it as it made its way to its current position. Click on the image below for larger version.

Opportunity is still busy studying the rocks here, since they are proving to be unique among all of the ones examined so far in Meridiani, and are providing more clues about the history of water on Mars. We’ll probably be here for a while (on Cape York) as the clay deposits a bit farther along are the major target for study (and elsewhere in Endeavour as well).
